Where to Reside and What You Can Do This Easter in Cape Town

easter-holidayThe long weekend that comes with the South African public holidays of Good Friday and Family Day the following Monday is a much awaited period for both locals and visitors. One of the best times of the year to take off from work because of it being during the last few weeks of favourable weather, the Easter weekend provides that much needed break from the usual rush of daily life. As the long weekend of Easter celebrations draws closer, many will be making plans to take advantage of this festive time of year. Some will be spending some much-needed time with family and friends while others may consider a road trip. Holiday seekers will certainly be looking at accommodation to make the most of the festivities. Some are even planning as this blog post is being written.

Maybe we’re reminding you quite early about this period in Cape Town, but we have good reason for this. Read on below.

Favourable Weather

Although the summer will have come and gone before the Easter weekend arrives, the Cape is known to still enjoy pleasant weather conditions around this time of year. If you’re still longing to enjoy sun-soaked days in and around Cape Town, consider this your last chance, otherwise you will have to wait until September when the winter departs.

Cheaper Accommodation

Around the time that the Easter Weekend arrives, early April, accommodation costs will be easier on the wallet. Coupled with favourable weather conditions, this is clearly an attractive opportunity to visit the Cape and join in the festivities. With less concern over money, this will be a superb time to bring the whole family with to enjoy the many attractions in and around Cape Town.

Start Booking Now!

You might not know this, but it’s a widely known fact that accommodation is cheaper during the autumn period in Cape Town, and all the best spots could be booked as early as the first week of March! You’d better get over your disbelief quickly, and book as soon as you know where in the Cape you’d like to go to during the Easter period.

What Can You Do During This Time?

There are numerous events and activities happening before and during the Easter weekend, so many in fact that we cannot mention them all. But we have some here that will cater to the many age groups of the family. Kids will get to have their fun and adults will get to indulge in a delicious meal with a smooth drink and picturesque views.

Cape Quarter Easter Competition (14 – 18 April)

Located in the trendy Cape Town quarter of De Waterkant, the shopping complex of the Cape Quarter starts the last week before Easter with a sweet competition tailored for shoppers and chocoholics. During this period, participants will get the opportunity to walk away with a R 5000.00 cash prize and Lindt chocolate hampers. The requirement to stand a chance to win these prizes is to find the knee-high Lindt Easter Bunny, photograph him (he tends to move twice a day) and post your image on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (tagging @CapeTownMag will earn you bonus points). To ensure your success in this quest, the Cape Quarter will provide two clues to the Easter Bunny’s location in either the Cape Quarter Square or the Cape Quarter Piazza on their Twitter and Facebook pages. The more you enter, the greater is your chance of winning.
