What Traveller Style Describes You Best?

adventure-seekerCategories are a big part of society today. It’s how people organise their thoughts, their lives and everything else. One of the most obvious examples of this is the hashtag. People search for trending news according to hashtags and these help them find what they are looking for. Even the search for the next holiday apartment or villa involves using a hashtag.

But then turn it around. Hashtags can also stand for deeper meanings and symbols. What hashtag best describes you?

Do you think of yourself as the solo explorer? Or perhaps you’re one half of a romantic duet? Do you like to travel in style? Or is a thrilling adventure really what you want?

The well-regarded magazine of Conde Nast Traveller has compiled a list of travel personalities. Check out our own spin on them and tell us on Facebook which one you identify with the most.

#TheCollector

A hunter of the exotic, wherever you go, a piece goes with you. A visitor to your home will discover a sweeping variety of mementos decorating your living area, from the streets of India, the famous pyramids of Cairo and even the almost dream-like Paris. Travelling for you would not be complete without acquiring some antique piece, indigenous clothing or indulging in a local dish. Collecting for you is not always something that you necessarily carry off because every travelling experience is added to your collection as well.

#TheConformist

A follower of the trends, you go where you’ll be accepted socially. You may take a glance at where your friends are going, but you’ll probably spend hours scanning through your rival’s social platforms. Perhaps a visit to a getaway at a picturesque lagoon is really what you need, but all that’s on your mind is enjoying the Holi festival and being covered in a rainbow of colours. Your camera and Photoshop are your preferred travelling tools.

#ThrillSeeker

Don’t misunderstand, this isn’t just for those who jump off cliffs, sky-dive, enjoy canyoneering or abseiling, but even those who consume the strongest dishes and the most potent of drinks. No one can stop you or will want to as you spend as much as you want on bottles of Johnny Walker or Smirnoff. While others might choke, you won’t hesitate at eating a classic Indian Curry. You might not even stop at traditional foods!

travel2#TheEscapist

You travel to run away. Maybe it’s your career, your friends, city life or boredom, whatever it is, the only way you can escape is to travel. Having a bad day at work? During your lunch break, you’ll already be making your travelling arrangements.

#TheSelfImprover

For you, travelling is about enriching your experience, learning new skills and growing in as many ways as possible. You might eat a fibre-rich breakfast at a café in Cape Town, put yourself through the heat of the Sahara desert or endure the chill as you visit the Gandantegchinlen Khiid monastery in Mongolia.

#ThePilgrim

You journey for religious reasons and to find spiritual fulfilment. A real travelling experience for you would be tracing the travels of Jesus, a visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem or admiring the magnificence of the historical mosque Sultanahmet Camii in Istanbul. You will not leave until you’ve found yourself spiritually enriched and discovered a deeper understanding of your beliefs.

#ThePioneertreehut

You’ve travelled the world many times and you’re slowly considering leaving the multitude of tourists exploring the planet. Whatever there was that you’ve wanted to do, you’ve done them all. You’ve explored historic sites, taken part in one festival after another and you’ve tried a cuisine from every variety. Now, you’re hooked on the idea of selling ponchos in Morocco, setting up a sandboarding shop in Ireland or shipping gatsbys to Australia.

#TheInfrequentTraveller

The most uninspired of travellers. You prefer to wait for your pals to invite you to a wedding, birthday party or festival. You might be foolishly waiting for some senior relative in Venice to grant you the rights to their home or you’re too wrapped up in your other vices to spend anything on booking a flight ticket.

travel3#TheUnmindful

While you’re exploring the streets of some magnificent city, you might not be even paying attention to the stunning architecture, mesmerising views and enticing establishments all around, because you’re so consumed in your own little world. All your attention is fixed on some book you’re reading or on your smartphone as you troll your friend’s Facebook/Instagram pages. All you ever remember from your travels are the tastes, sounds and smells, but never the sights.

#TheInquisitive

The most curious of travellers, your mind is always focussed on the present. Your eyes, ears and mind are all wide open. You are the rarest of travellers and much like the Thrill Seeker, nothing keeps you from your explorations.
