9528875b73878bb859be46a5e9a75589The West Coast of the Western Cape is a breathtaking region along the Atlantic Ocean, home to a stunning nature reserve and numerous charming towns. One particular town is that of Darling. This town’s claim to fame is the Darling Wildflower Show, a famous annual event on the West Coast offering visitors the chance to explore a stunning wildflower route. This year will be the 99th time it has taken place! Having been around since 1917, this event has become known for showcasing the vibrant colours that have made this part of the Western Cape a highly sought after attraction. The Darling Wildflower Show will take place from Friday the 16th to Sunday the 18th of September, 2016.

Originally, this event was created to showcase the town’s natural wealth to the world. Today, that has not changed, but the Darling Wildflower Show additionally takes place in aid of charity, specifically towards the town’s conservation initiatives such as the Darling Flora Project. With this year being no different, you can look forward to exploring an exhibition featuring over 1200 different flower species.

A little extra info

This may be hard to believe, but this wealth of flora comes from simply a handful of soil types. Thanks to the work of the locals who work hard to conserve this natural habitat, the town of Darling can go down in history as one of the most beautiful places in the world. To say that you will be amazed at the vast amount of different hues is an understatement. After all, this part of the West Coast flower region is an integral part of the famous Cape Fynbos Kingdom.

While you explore

Of course, it’s not just the exploration of the flower route that you can look forward to. In and around the flower route are numerous vendors. Satisfy your appetite with a variety of dishes while you get clothing and souvenirs to take back home. There are additionally a good number of wine estates around the town of Darling while several children’s play areas are available as well where they can enjoy activities and tasty treats.
