The historically interesting C.P Nel Museum is considered one of the best Museums in the region, offering insight into the rich history of the Klein Karoo and of Oudtshoorn to visitors. Located in an old building that was previously an all boys high school, the C.P Nel Museum can be enjoyed by visitors from all over the world. This is the only museum with an actual Synagogue inside that is still in use. The Museum focuses on the 3 famous historical figures that play an important role in Oudtshoorn’s history, namely Bullock, Vixseboxse and Nel. This sandstone building is really something to behold and reflects the late Victorian Colonial Style of a classic building from the early 19th Century. when the Ostrich feather boom was in full swing. Together with Dutch architect VixseBoxse and handered military and collector of antiques CP Nel. By the time the school had amalgamated, the building was in a bad condition and was almost destroyed, but instead was named the CP Nel National Museum and housed all of his finest treasures and collections. This museum showcases old and backdated antiques and reflects the rich history and lives of the schoolchildren who attended this one prestigious school in the Klein Karoo region. Today, locals and tourists enjoy insightful tours through this wonderful museum.
