The Shark Lab

Western Cape, Cape Town , Mossel Bay

Description

For a deeper look into the curious and alluring lives of sharks, The Shark Lab is a great way to do so and even provides guests with opportunities to swim with sharks as well as meet a very friendly octopus, as well as a number of other underwater species kept here. Sharks have survived on Earth for over 400 million years and have changed very little over time, however with human interference the population has dwindled significantly even though the presence of sharks in our oceans is essential to the underwater eco-system. The Shark Lab aims to inspire a positive difference to shark communities.

Situated near the waters edge of Mossel Bay in the stunning Garden Route, The Shark Lab is a small aquarium and also a research facility that aims to teach people about these interesting sea creatures, as well as the research that takes place here. Guests can enjoy personal tours by experienced aquariasts who are both knowledgeable and passionate. The Shark Lab Aquarium & Research Facility is operated by Oceans Aware (a devision of Oceans) an organization dedicated to the exploration, discovery, understanding and conservation of marine life in Africa. The entrance fee is very reasonable and diving with sharks experience is an additional cost, which is kept low to ensure that everyone has the opportunity for some one-on-one time with these creatures.
