Matjiesvlei is a must see when visiting the Klein Karoo. Come enjoy the serene and tranquil beauty of this valley, situated at the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains between Calitzdorp and Ladismith. Farming in this area dates back as far as 1821.
They offer guests a peaceful, relaxing stay in one of the four self-catering units, Douglas-huis, Thiart-huis, Cloete-huis and Huis Oppie Rant. If guests prefer being even closer to nature you can unwind at our camping site, Die Damrivierkamp (the dam river camp), situated on the shores of the Gamka River.
Indulge in the comfort of the following historic, quaint self catering cottages nestled in this picturesque valley. The cottages have equipped kitchens, braai facilities, bedding, oil lamps, candles and hot water.
Enjoy the day fishing, hiking, swimming in the nearby river or exploring our 4x4 and walking trails all in close proximity.
This is an anglers paradise, with a wide variety of fish species including Yellow fish, Black bass, Eel and Carp. There are also fantastic water holes perfect for swimming and rowing. The Bôjaankop 4x4 route takes you to the top of Bôjaankop from where one can enjoy stunning views of the Little Karoo.
Matjiesvlei is conveniently located for day trips to Oudtshoorn with all its tourist attractions, The Garden Route, Die Hel (Gamkaskloof) and beautiful mountain passes in the area.
They invite you to come kick back and relax. Enjoy some of the delightful local wines while savouring the tranquil beauty as only mother nature can provide.

Thiart Huis

Built in 1936 by Pieter Thiart, this comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated cottage has 3 bedrooms and can accommodate 7 persons.
Two of the bedrooms each have a double bed while the third room has both a double and a single bed. Please note that electricity is only available in the kitchen.

Douglas Huis

This comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated cottage dates back to 1860 and consists of 3 bedrooms accommodating 6 persons in total. Please note that electricity is only available in the kitchen.

Cloete Huis
Sleeps: 4
Cloete Huis is amongst one of the oldest buildings in Matjiesvlei and is ideal for a honeymoon breakaway. The house is fully furnished with one bedroom and a beautiful view of the valley and Swartberg Mountains.
A separate bedroom with 2 single beds and bathroom is also available in the outbuilding. The house does not have electricity, but is equipped with sufficient candles, oil lamps and a donkey boiler for hot water.

Huis Oppie Rant

Huis Oppie Rant is a 3 bedroom self catering cottage with beautiful wooden floors and ceilings and a magnificent view of the mountains.
Two of the rooms each have a double bed while the third room has two single beds. The cottage does not have electricity, but is equipped with sufficient gas lamps and a donkey boiler for hot water.
The cottage has its own braai facilities, fully equipped kitchen and bedding. The unit is completely isolated from the hustle and bustle of city life, you can enjoy the breathtaking sunsets from the veranda.

Die Wa Huis

Die Wa-huis is situated on top of a hill overlooking a 2km stretch of the Gamka River. Stunning views of the river and mountains. The cottage sleeps two.
The unit is without electricity but fully equipped with candles and lamps, a gas stove, fridge/freezer and a donkey-boiler for hot water. Come and experience how our ancestors lived some decades ago.
