Cheetah Outreach

Western Cape, Cape Town , Somerset West

Description

Nothing in life will compare to experiencing an interaction with a majestic and beautiful Cheetah, the fastest land animal in the world which is sadly on the endangered list and remains incredibly fascinating to people, and can still be visited at sanctuaries like this one. In the early 20th century, it was estimated that about 100,000 cheetahs were alive in Africa and surrounding countries, however today the estimated total has lowered significantly to a worrying 7,100 left in the wild. The Cheetah Outreach is both educational and insightful, as a community based programme that aims to create awareness of the terrible life threatening plight of these stunning wild cats, as well as to campaign for its survival and join forces with whoever is able to assist.

Together with many other similar conservation organizations, the Cheetah Outreach preservation and education centre continues to take on new challenges and evolves as needed to aid these creatures. Guests who visit the facilities will learn more about this, as well as have the opportunity to experience a cheetah encounter with one of about 12 cheetahs. The centre often hand-rears cubs from cheetah breeding facilities and raises them in a friendly and safe environment so that they can be brand ambassadors representing the species. The Cheetah Outreach centre is Somerset West is open every day from 9:30am to 5pm.
