The Cape Town Cycle Tour 2017

Cape Town Cycle TourThe Cape Town Cycle Tour has come so far in its many years, starting in 1977 with the aim of creating awareness and showing the need for cycle paths in Cape Town, and now already celebrating its 40th year. That first year, the ride had only a few hundred cyclists at the starting line but a lot has changed since then, and there will be about 35 000 cyclists taking part in 2017. For those who are interested in learning more and mingling with fellow cyclists before the race, there will be a Cape Town Cycle Tour expo from the 9th to the 11th of March, held in the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point.

This year is looking to be yet another fantastic one for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, which will commence early on Sunday, 12th March 2017 (the race traditionally plans to takes place the second Sunday in the month of March). This scenic ride will be 109kms, and starts in the heart of Cape Town, heading to the M3 and Muizenburg, south all the way to Smitswinkel, and from there back North through Hout Bay, Camps Bay and eventually ending the lengthy escapade in Green Point, where celebrations can ensue and many returning participants can compare their progress and results. For a lot of cyclists that participate, this is the first major cycling event for the new year, and so it sets the pace for what is to come.
