Zombie Walk 2017 – Cape Town

Zombie-Walk-Cape-Town

Capetonians and all visitors to our beautiful Mother City can look forward to one of the most exciting annual Halloween Festivities to date, taking place in just over one month!

A walk of epic and unusual proportions, where the consistent and unnerving hum of the living dead filter through Cape Town city, the popular Zombie Walk is one of Cape Town’s most highly anticipated annual Halloween events. Bring your camera along because you will want to capture amazing memories of this spectacular event!

This year will be the 8th time Cape Town’s streets will be taken over by the crooked shuffling of local and visiting zombie’s who come from all walks of life to meet others inflicted – even little ankle biting children-zombies with reckless abandon can be found noisily keeping up with their older companions/aka observant parent zombies.

zombiewalk2015_4342-575x383The fact that the Zombie Walk can be attended by the entire family (there is no age restriction) as well as accompanying furry four legged zombie pets makes it all the more alluring, but it is also important to note that the Zombie Walk event helps to raise funds for local charities like the all important Lucky Lucy foundation, which is a non-profit and pro-life organization aiming to relieve the plight of neglected, injured and abused township and street animals.

As South Africa’s biggest and most enjoyable annual Halloween event, it is necessary that all zombie folk look the part for this year’s 1 hour long Zombie Walk and express their inner “dead and hungry for brains” self. Dressing up is a big part of the Zombie Walk and can be quiet simple, so tap into your creativity and express your dark side – blood, gore and just plain gruesome are all expected at the Zombie Walk – after all, zombies don’t follow the rules.

A Few Fun Zombie Facts:

  • The Oxford English Dictionary’s definition for zombie is as follows “a soulless corpse said to have been revived by witchcraft”. The word Zombie was first seen in 1819.
  • Did you know that World Zombie Day falls on the 8th October? This is the perfect occasion to practice your Zombie moves for the upcoming Cape Town Zombie Walk!
  • According to traditional zombie lore, a zombie can only truly be killed by cutting off its head or by damaging its brain. Oh, and generic weapons work better than firearms.
  • Zombies represent a dark and demented side of the human condition. The fear of zombies often stems from real human fears relating to unfamiliar and chaotic worldly forces.
