Stilbaai

Stilbaai, Garden Route, Western Cape

Stilbaai (Still Bay) is a town on the southern coast of the Western Cape, also known as "The Bay of Sleeping Beauty". While the town features numerous restaurants and shops, its main attraction is the wealth of activities for travellers to pursue.

Stilbaai offers the opportunity to catch sights of whales during their migration period while the streams that run close and through the town feature eels. Fishing is a popular past time here with the locals using old fish-traps.

The town is a hotspot during peak tourist season for sunbathers and swimmers while tours are available, taking guests to Melkhoudsfontein, the locals there being the descendants of the original inhabitants of the region, the Khoi-San. The settlement additionally features "Soete Inval", a small botanical garden where the locals find and make use of herbs for cooking and medicinal purposes.
